AI voice job rates, explained honestly

Nobody publishes real numbers for AI voice work, which is exactly why the terms are so often bad. Here is how the pay is actually structured, what changes the figure, and the clauses that quietly cost you more than the rate ever pays you.

Three things set the fee

Every legitimate AI voice engagement prices on the same three variables. If a brief does not tell you all three, it is not a brief, it is a trap.

  • Recorded volume. Usually measured in delivered recorded hours, not hours you sat in the room. A corpus session with heavy retakes can take three hours of your day to deliver one clean hour, and the fee should account for that.
  • Licence scope. What the audio is allowed to do. Research and internal model training sits at one end. A commercially deployed synthetic voice carrying your identity sits at the other, and should be paid like it.
  • Licence term. How long the permission runs before it has to be renegotiated. Term is the single biggest lever on value, and the one buyers most often try to make infinite.

What you should never accept

Rate is the number people argue about. Term is the number that decides what you were actually paid.

  • Perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide. Three words that turn a session fee into a sale of your voice identity forever.
  • Unnamed end client. If nobody will tell you who the data is for or what it trains, you cannot consent to it in any meaningful sense.
  • Sublicensing without limit. Permission to pass your recordings to unnamed third parties means your voice ends up somewhere you will never be able to trace.
  • No deletion route. Voice recordings are personal data under UK and EU law. A contract with no documented deletion path is a contract written to ignore that.

How Voices4AI prices work

We quote a session fee and a licence together, before you commit to anything. The consent record names the client, the purpose, the territory and the term. Licences are time-limited by default, renewal is a fresh agreement and a fresh fee, and recordings are never repackaged into other datasets. If a client wants terms we think are unfair to you, we tell you that rather than quietly passing the paperwork along.

Rates vary by language, accent rarity, session length and licence, so we quote per project rather than publishing a single number we would have to caveat into meaninglessness. Join the roster and you will see the fee and the licence scope on every casting we send you. Current paid castings are listed on the AI voice jobs board.

Rates, asked plainly

How much do AI voice jobs pay?

There is no single rate. AI voice work is priced per recorded hour or per session, and the fee depends on the licence attached to it - what the audio is used for, for how long, and whether your voice identity is part of the deal. A short scripted corpus session with a narrow research licence and a full voice-clone licence with a commercial term are not the same job and should never carry the same fee.

Is AI voice work paid less than normal voiceover?

Per hour in the booth it can look lower, because AI sessions are long, scripted and repetitive rather than performance-heavy. But the sessions are long, so the day is often comparable. The difference that matters is the licence, not the hourly figure - a low rate attached to a perpetual worldwide buyout is a bad deal at any price.

Do I get paid per usage or once?

Speech dataset work is normally a session fee plus a defined licence term. Ongoing royalties are rare in data collection because the data feeds a model, not a broadcast. What you should always get is a licence with an end date, so renewal is a fresh negotiation and a fresh fee.

Are AI voice marketplaces worth using?

Some are. The ones to avoid are the ones that ask for a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide licence to your voice identity in exchange for a flat one-off payment and no right to withdraw. Read the licence clause before the rate.
